| - I lived in a studio/alcove apartment for one year, and I've recently moved up to a 1-bedroom with my fiancee. We purposefully asked for a second story apartment this time, as we had an extreme ant problem, as well as an actual rat in our first story home. Since we moved up, it has been a much better experience, pest-wise.
The landscaping and atmosphere is nice, but it's totally ridiculous that they have someone with a leaf-blower working nearly every morning starting 6 AM. I watched them blow nothing but dust in one spot for 35 minutes straight once. They should take some of their landscapers and turn them into better security, as homeless people constantly rummage through the dumpsters right outside my apartment. The community is "gated", but half of the gates are broken, and the other half are just propped open all the time.
The office team is nice enough, but their communication skills are just horrible. I've been quoted the wrong amount of rent multiple times, and it's on ME to pay late fines if the amount they tell me isn't correct.
Continuing with rent, the rent-paying system is the most inconvenient, convoluted system they could've implemented. There is no auto-pay, as rent changes each month, and it's YOUR responsibility to do the math between all of the bills to come up with the correct number. If you do the math incorrectly and pay too much, you don't get refunded. If you pay too little, they hit you with fees and extra charges.
This place loves to fine you for every little thing. My first week in my apartment, I tried to open the blinds, which literally fell apart just by moving them. They then charged me $200 for damages.
One of the great things about our bigger apartment is it includes a dishwasher! We were so excited about it, but after only a couple of uses, the dishwasher itself has begun to stink horribly. It is beginning to make the apartment smell like rotting food, and I'm scared to go to maintenance about the problem, as past interactions with the maintenance staff have been extremely delayed and borderline rude.
It's really not the absolute worst place to live (everywhere has its cons), but I am excited for my lease to be up so I can look for a better place to live.
