| - I was a longtime customer (since the mid-1990s) of the now-relocated Decatur/ Oakey location (the staff was the best!). My first impression of the store was based on the snooty (nose in the air) and rushed (Type A) customer base ((don't worry, I thought the same exact way about the Sprouts nearby, too, except, I really wanted to tell this old lady off, yeah, that bad, seriously---and this was before we moved into the area)) but we've since come here at various different days and times and the crowd is always pretty different (it isn't so bad, it just depends). Our son always welcomes the stickers and suckers (he's got a great memory, he's always looking for the promo for a lollipop, or even stickers).
There's definitely more space (wider aisles) than my old fave and a slightly different setup (the aisles are at an angle). (Parking is pretty good, considering this is shared with the rest of the strip mall shopping center. The carts are on the left side of the store, outside.) As you enter, stay on the right, and that is the produce department (right side and middle aisle), followed by the prepared convenience items (salads, soups, wraps, etc.), meats (deli, sausage) and cheeses, with the cereal and granola bars to the left, opposite of the produce department. (Near the entrance doors are the flowers and potted plants, herbs.) The sampling station will be the back, far right side. Yogurt, eggs, will be the back wall. Opposite wall has the bread, lavosh, etc. (Baked goods- sheet cake, macaroons, tarts, are in an island section nearby.) After the bread section, is the tea, chai, and coffee section. That same side has the alcohol- bottles of wine- red, white, etc., assorted beer, etc. Generally, the middle aisles have chips, juice, vitamins, nuts, trail mix, canned foods like tuna, chili, olives, bottles of spices, sauces, rice, pasta, and the frozen department (vegetables, fruit, breakfast, ice cream, entrees, rice, burgers, seafood). Above the frozen department, stored in the upper aisles are chocolate bars and packaged cookies. Checkout stands are to the back door and far left side of the store. The line seems to go pretty fast.
Did you notice no matter where you are doing your grocery shopping, that there is always some attention-getting goodies situated near the checkout area? Target marketing. Always clean when we've shopped here. The bathroom is near the bread department, back left of the store.
Our frequently purchased items, based on our last visit: nacho cheese tortilla chips $1.99, restaurant style tortilla chips $1.99, uncrystallized ginger $1.79, frozen pineapple tidbits $1.99, cheese tortellini pasta $2.29, spiced chai tea $2.49, frozen turkey corn dogs $2.99. We usually get the cracked wheat sourdough $2.99, but sometimes the bread sells out fast.
