| - Had a nice time in Montreal (my favorite town) this weekend. I've stayed at most of the 4-star hotels here, I am an SPG member, and I could not wrap my mind around how downtrodden the staff here seem. I booked through a third party that allowed bed selection. I booked a room with one bed. Upon check-in they wanted to give me two doubles. The person helping me made some excuse why they couldn't accommodate me, but after hearing I was an SPG member she offered me an upgrade to a king room with a minifridge and with wifi included (for the cost of 2 days of wifi anyway, so it was worth it.) I was on the SPG floor, which isn't anything amazing. The bed was amazing. My fiancée hates firm mattresses, so she barely slept. That comes down to personal preference I guess. The duvet cover was kind of ratty looking. I guess that's a sign that they clean it regularly, but comeon guys. You can do better.
The location is amazing, parking is super amazing and convenient, and the rooms are nice. It is an old brutalist building though, so the rooms are also kind of dark and they apparently decided to leave up the nasty popcorn ceiling during their last refurb. Kind of kills the atmosphere. Great view if you get a high floor. That's kind of the best part about this place, so I'd consider making the $40 upgrade if you stay here. The place was spotless, no qualms there.
When it comes down to it, it's an old school 70s hotel that they should have done a better job modernizing. I won't make any effort to come here again for that reason.
