  • A terrible local paper, conservative to the point of willful negligence of facts, or common sense. A few years ago, this paper endorsed the sitting Tea Party Republican mayor with the mind-boggling argument (paraphrasing here) that because the incumbent mayor was a retiree, allowing him to continue would help him keep busy in his old age. Great argument, you guys! (And when the incumbent lost the election, I didn't see it reported at all on the News-Gazette; I found the election results on Smile Politely!) The other day, the paper printed the most ridiculous letter to the editor from a woman outraged about having to pay a library fee for a late book. That dastardly public library, allowing community members to check out thousands of books and other media for free for a set period of time! The communists have taken over! There's so many more outlets to get local information --like the aforementioned Smile Politely-- that a person could safely never read this newspaper and never miss out on a thing.
