We had a church event at Butcher Jones Recreational area. This beach and rec area is tucked away in a canyon on Saguaro Lake in the Tonto national Forest, hence the reason you need a Tonto Pass to park here. They are only $8.00 and they don not sell them on site. Purchase one in town at most convenient stores before leaving. They do patrol the parking lot and the fine is up to $100.00 for not having one.
The area is a home to a herd of wild horses, so you may see one if you're lucky. You will see the evidence that they are around so watch your step. The beach is the main attraction. This beach is not maintained much so you won't find a sandy groomed shoreline. There are restrooms and changing rooms on site.
There is a hiking path that follows the shoreline for 2.5 miles. The beauty of the park is why this place is perfect for a picnic or event.
