  • Moved to Pittsburgh last July and had been looking for a barber. Reviews for Adam had me come in and check things out. Probably one of the most relaxing haircut experiences you could hope for. Music bumping on his speakers, garage door open letting in the summer breeze, beers in the fridge. Getting a haircut is usually rote routine for me and Adam creates a modern Bohemia out of it in his Alder St garage. If I walk in on a Sunday with a long list of chores, I'm usually convinced by the end of my cut to enjoy the weather and go for a walk, or bike instead. If there was a beach in the Pittsburgh area, I'd imagine his hours would read something like "Open from 9-5pm most days, unless the surf is good." It's that kind of appreciation for the moment that comes across from Adam when you're hanging out in his shop. After my first cut I came home and my fiancĂ©e said it was probably the best I had ever gotten. Having lived in Boston and NYC for the last 15 years and gone through many Barbers it was nice to know I found a spot here that is now a staple in my routine. I read reviews about Adam only giving "hipster" haircuts and I think honestly, as is the case with any barber, it's all about describing what you want and learning as you go. Different descriptions mean different things to different people. If you aren't specific, Adam has instincts about what a good clean haircut should look like. Fortunately for me, cutting my hair is a set it and forget it kind of endeavor so I'm glad I can walk in and say something general like "I usually push my hair up in the front and am looking for clean edges faded to the top" and Adam can handle the rest. Which is great because any more questions and I really wouldn't know much else to say. Bring cash. Texting by appointment is great btw, he can almost always fit you in. Places in Lawrenceville you need to book a week in advance which is tough when you realize you are overdue for a haircut NOW which is usually the situation I'm in. DO text him to make an appointment. I've seen people walk up and he's great about fitting you in but being a one man shop walk-ins are probably tougher to manage. He makes it work either way. All in all, laid back vibe, skilled craftsmanship, very cool digs and being a local entrepreneur and Pitt native, Adams where I'll be going for years to come.
