| - I have mixed feelings about the Rio. It definitely is past its prime; the rooms are quite large and spacious, but need a remodel. The first room they gave me had cigarette burns in the furniture and floor and reeked of cigarettes, even though we requested a nonsmoking room, and within 5 minutes of being in the room, my daughter was getting a headache. We went back down, they took us to the front of the line to the clerk that originally checked us in and she gave us a new room, no problem. This room was much nicer and very clean, though you could tell it needed a remodel big time. (knicked up furniture, peeling off wall paper, etc) We rented a car so we used the complimentary parking lots. I always found parking relatively close. EVERY employee we encountered was friendly and helpful. All the restaraunts we tried had good food and I felt they gave you enormous servings for the price. I don't gamble and I don't smoke (we were there for a conference), so two notes on that: I was surprised that the gambling area as you walked through was not nearly as smokey as say, The Orleans. I appreciated that. The pool area was closed and there was NO WHERE to just sit down outside and read a book. Seriously, NO WHERE. I found a very uncomfortable bench at the convention center that was used for shuttle pick up. The consierge told me I could go sit on the stairs. No thanks!
