  • This one is going to be long.......just warning you. So this was the 1st time I've ever been to a restaurant that provides the tasting menu options, either $89.50/person for the 6 course or $119.50/person for the 12 course. Either way, you're getting a large variety of dishes to quench your palate. The way it's explained, the 12 course option has dishes 1/2 the size of the 6 so you get the same amount of food, however, in between they bring little amuse bouches so it's definitely more food. The service is what you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber, very attentive and helpful. I will say that my experience in many Montreal restaurants lead me to believe service is not in their vocabulary but Europea was truly an exception. We had 13 people at our table, some a little more demanding with their food...."less sauce, no sauce, this or that on the side", etc. No problem, they accommodated everything. For the vegetarians there is a separate tasting menu and they even allowed to pick and choose some items from the vegetarian and some from the regular. Each dish is carefully placed and then explained to the group in perfect detail. The food was outstanding! We all had the 6 course meal. They start with a variety of amuse-bouches such as peppered jerky, cheese lollipops, assorted butters and breads, flavored popcorn and more. Then to prepare you for the amazing meal to come, their signature lobster bisque cappuccino arrives.......holy crap! It's worth going to Europea just for that. You then get to choose one of 3 appetizers and one of 3 main course. The portions are quite large. My ricotta ravioli with sauteed mushroom, truffle sauce and pan-seared foie gras was to die for, fortunately it didn't come to that. The breads are all freshly baked and amazing, I did not need to have 3 pieces of the french baguette but I never let that stop me. They also do some very unique dishes.....one amuse-bouche is a box that looks like a book. You open the book and out comes this amazing smokey smell like logs in a fire and it reveals a tiny but delicious salmon in a small cup, I forget what else was it it but it was really good. Then comes dessert, also a barrage of little dishes that includes sorbet, cotton candy tree, panna cotta, a variety of macaroons and cookies, caramel and nut cheesecake lollipops, nuts, coconut marshmallow squares and more. I will admit I was surprised by the quantity of food. I'm not a small eater and fully expected to have alot of small dishes and to leave hungry.....boy was I wrong, I left stuffed. Europea is worth the visit, however be prepared for a long night. It's not because the service is slow, it's because the food just keeps coming and you can't wait to see what they bring next. Not the place to go if you need to catch a movie. However, if you want a really nice restaurant with great food and that allows you to spend time with the person or people you're with, this is the perfect choice.
