| - UGH. This place. I bought a Groupon since I'm frugal but this is such a prime example of when it makes sense just to pay more. Not worth my troubles.
My Groupon was for three manicures. I got the first manicure and the girl did a decent job, so the 1 star isn't about her - it's about the management. First, the place is a little weird - it's in one of the townhome style buildings where the downstairs is set up to accommodate a business with a clear glass door and all that, and the upstairs seems like it might be a living space? Not sure. But, to say the least, they only have one or two customers at a time since it's so small, which I found kinda awkward. Also, I paid for three manicures through Groupon and a manicure should include trimming cuticles and all that. Well, they charge $3 extra for that. Total nickel-and-diming. Honestly, with the amount that I paid for the Groupon I'm not saving much if I then pay for my cuticles to be trimmed - which was the whole point of going here. I might as well get a polish change elsewhere for the same price - since that's essentially what it is if you don't pay for your cuticles.
My first visit went ok - not terrible - but even though scheduling is weird, the cuticle thing, and it's a little out of my way I wanted to get my moneys worth from the Groupon since it was for 3 visits, so I scheduled my second appointment a few days before a wedding that I'm in. My appointment was at 10, and in full disclosure, she had sent me some email that said if I was 10 minutes late she'd reschedule. Well, I arrived at 10:11, and she didn't want to service me because she had a 'waiting list of clients', her text said. Well, when I arrived the door was locked so there wasn't anyone in there. Perhaps what she meant was that she didn't want to push back her 11:00 appt by having me go over. But, lady, I was ONE MINUTE BEHIND your cutoff! What really bothers me though is that I'm sure she was inside, but I knocked and she wouldn't come out and she just texted me from inside that I'd have to reschedule. If we could have talked on the phone (I tried to call but it went straight to voicemail and that was full, of course) or in person, I could have told her that my nails are clean and that I don't need all the manicure extras like warm towels and incense and lotion and stuff, and if she could just apply polish I'd be happy and we'd all be good. Instead, she sat in there and just texted me about "sorry you've got to reschedule". This place is a little out of the way for me so I don't really want to drive back down there.. not to mention that I really don't want to visit somewhere so inflexible and cheap. What I had been expecting was a a nail salon, but this is more like a sorta-business run out of what might be someone's house.. which isn't the relaxing environment I want when I get my nails done.
