A true desert oasis about 25-30 minutes off the Las Vegas strip, Paiute is worth the drive! We had played Bali Hai a few days prior and were quite disappointed. But the Wolf course here did not disappoint! The staff is friendly, the clubhouse facilities adequate and food just so-so, but the courses are what makes Paiute something special. You can choose from three courses: Sun, Snow and the famous Wolf. Greens fees are not overpriced and carts are outfitted with gps to help you navigate and enjoy your round.
This review pertains only to the Wolf course. I was a bit nervous about playing because I am still a high handicap but this course is very playable. What makes it tough are the narrow fairways bordered by waste bunkers and very unforgiving desert brush. If you don't mind losing a few balls (they warn you about spiders and I didn't want to think about the possibility of snakes!) and enjoy a challenge, this course is wonderful. The greens were fast but certainly playable and not overly penal...in fact there was a lot less break than expected on most of them. A fair amount of water can also make it dicey but overall this course is impeccably maintained, long enough to challenge even the lowest of handicaps and fair enough to permit an advanced beginner like myself a very enjoyable round. Highly recommend! Oh-and we didn't see a single snake or spider but I wouldn't advise going in to the brush in search of your golf ball. Just drop another and take your medicine!
