  • My partner and I dined here twice. Our first experience was good over all. The food was delicious and our server was very friendly and attentive. Our second and possibly our last visit; was a complete and utter disaster!The food; just as we expected was delicious but the service was TERRIBLE! On our first visit; my partner really enjoyed his Waffle Benny and I really loved the Chicken Bacon Club!! I also ordered a plain Mango smoothie which was served in a HUGE pint glass, was deliciously creamy and totally worth the $5! A couple sat next to us and was waiting to be approached by a server. They eventually stormed out in a huff. I don't know how long they waited but they were quite upset. Maybe this was an omen for us to steer clear of this place? Our second visit was yesterday morning around 11am. There were two male cooks; one played three roles; second cook, dish washer and bus boy and there was one female server. Keep in mind they were very busy with all the tables taken and quite a few people waiting at the bar, door or outside to be seated. I felt really bad for the server because she was very busy and she had to play the role of hostess, waitress, barista and bartender for the entire restaurant. Do you get the picture that they were extremely understaffed? We were lucky to be seating within minutes of arriving. We literally sat at our table over half and hour before the waitress got a chance to greet us. I'm a waitress as well and so my partner and I were very patient and understanding. We both wanted to order the Chicken Bacon Club but was told they were out of Chicken, Avocado and chives; so we had to quickly order something else. I ended up getting the Hitch hiker and my partner ordered the Waffle Benny. Based on how delicious, creamy and HUGE the smoothie was on our first visit; I ordered a plain mango smoothie. I mentioned to the server that I had the smoothie before and was really looking forward to it but asked if she could add some sugar. After a little bit of hesitation; she agreed to add some sugar to my smoothie. I was happy! Our food took another 30-40 minutes to arrive at our table. None-the-less; it was just as delicious as we remembered! I was still waiting for my smoothie. By this time most of the guests who were waiting were seated and another female employee had arrived and took over the role of barista and bartender. The server finally brought over my smoothie which had Banana in it. Honest mistake. After about 10mins of trying to get her attention; she finally came over and I reminded her that I had ordered a plain mango smoothie. I was expecting the same thing I had ordered last time; Huge glass, nice and creamy smoothie.Instead; a bright yellow concoction was dropped off at my table in a much smaller glass. NOT what I wanted. The barista had mixed mango slices and orange juice. I took one sip and it was TERRIBLE!I left it at the edge of the table; hoping the waitress would come over and ask if I enjoyed my smoothie. She came by, cleared our plates and with nothing but the smoothie left on the table; asked if we wanted anything else. We asked for the bill. She brought us the bill and left it right next to the untouched smoothie without enquiring about it. As a server; I would never do this. I care whether or not guests enjoy their food, beverage, the service and the ambiance. This server (who was no longer busy) couldn't careless that I didn't drink the smoothie. I can see pass waiting half and hour to have my order taken and I can also see pass waiting another 30-40 minutes for my food to be delivered to my table but I cannot see pass this server completely disregarding my obvious dislike of the improperly made drink. Being a server; my partner and I are very generous tippers but I left that server NOTHING. I wanted to leave her a note explaining exactly why I left no tip but I was just so angry. I hope the management and staff at Starving Artist get the chance to read this. I'm extremely disappointed in how this was handled.
