| - Love, love LOVE it! I'm so glad I found Curls Gone Wild!!
Cutting curly hair is both a skill and an art, in my opinion. I have been dealing with one bad cut after another for years. I've reached a point where I wait until my hair resembles a Brillo pad before I'll go get a cut, because I'm sure I will leave unhappy. I've tried cheap salons, and expensive salons and everywhere in between and the results are always the same. I thought I was just being difficult, until I found out that you can't cut curly hair like straight hair and started looking for someone who specialized in curly hair. Seriously, I had no idea!
And the frizz! Ugh! All I could think to do was try new products, buy more expensive products, and use more and heavier products to tame my hair and weigh it down. I was really hating this humidity, and was trying to keep my hair contained in clips and ponytails, and hoping for dryer weather soon.
I was so happy to find Curls Gone Wild with a Google search, and disappointed that I hadn't found this fabulous salon earlier! They've been open for a couple of years. How did I miss this place?
Lea cut my hair, and she did a great job! She took the time to explain about curly hair, how to care for it, how to manage it, all while giving me an amazing cut! She talked to me about what she was doing the whole time, and stopped for my feedback throughout. Her job was even complicated by the fact that I was there having her fix the cut I had gotten only a week earlier at a different salon. She managed and I left HAPPY!
First of all, I had no idea how to care for curly hair. None. How is it that the Curly Girl method isn't better known and taught to clients by hair stylists everywhere?
Not only did I get a great cut, the salon is beautiful! It's tastefully decorated, spacious and clean. It smelled good, even though there were several treatments in progress when I got there. The hair dressers were professionally dressed and their own hair was beautifully done. I can't tell you how much it bugs me when you walk in to a salon and the hair dressers are dressed sloppily and their hair looks like they didn't bother to do much more than wash it. If you're in the beauty business, dress the part!
I was greeted immediately when I walked through the door, which is a big plus in my book. I was escorted back, and asked what I wanted to have done. I was offered water twice while I was there, and when had me sit under the dryer (so she could cut my hair dry), she offered me magazines to read. Very, very good customer service!
When I left, she reviewed the products she used, but did not push me to buy anything. No high pressure sales! I did want to buy, though. Since starting up with new products can be expensive, I picked up a travel kit. This way, I have everything she use, and I can pick up the full sized bottles a little bit at a time.
They are an equal opportunity salon, I'd like to add. Lea told me they cut all kinds of hair, including straight hair, men's, women's and kids!
Because it was my first visit, I get to go back and have sort of a review of this Curly Girl hair care regimen in a month, free of charge. I'm looking forward to that!
I found my home. No doubt I'll be back!!
