| - I love staying at the Bellgio, and it's usually my family's choice of hotel when we're in Vegas. However, as often as we stay here, I'm always the odd ball out skipping out on the buffet portion because of the price. Anyway, since the buffet here is hailed as the 2nd best (if not the best) buffet in town, we figured it was best if we went early to avoid the lines on my mother's insistence that I go this time. It was a smart move. On a Monday night, we arrived around 5:30PM, and the line was already starting to form. We waited in line for ~20 minutes until we were seated. From the time we paid for our meal which was ~$130 for 4, I thought to myself that this better be the best damn meal I'll have during this vacation! It didn't start that way though. It took our server 10+ minutes to get our order of drinks in, and she even ended up bringing out the wrong drinks the first time. She did however, redeem herself throughout the meal by frequently coming to check on us. It was even pleasant when she tried to strike up a conversation with us.
As far as the food goes, they have a wide variety that will appeal to almost everyone's tastes. From seafood (crab legs, shrimp cocktail sauce, oysters, salmon) to carving stations (kobe beef, prime rib), from the salad station to the pizza selection, and to my favorite dessert stop, you'll get a taste of gourmet food from all ethnic cuisine. The quality of most of the food is as close as top notch as you can get when it comes to a buffet. There's not much to complain about in that aspect. I adored the shrimp cocktail, and I had 2 full plates of it; the cocktail sauce decently surprised me. I'm not so sure on how to feel about the crab legs though because I could only get so little meat out. The Kobe beef bled everywhere, so I ended up not touching it. My mother couldn't stop going back to the sushi section. The fruit was extremely fresh, and the melons especially were as sweet as ever! As for the dessert table, they were all appealing to the eye, and most were at the very least decent. Yes, I tried and finished every single plate there. My favorite would have to be the little macarons! I took plenty of those. The frozen yogurt (??) was extremely tart, and it melted a little too quickly so I didn't bother getting seconds.
So why did I dock 1 star off? Well, I accidentally overfilled my plate and dropped a cherry tomato onto the floor (which I had tried to look for but couldn't find where that little devil had rolled off to). Seconds later as I headed back to my table, a staff member had picked it up, shoved it in my face, and scoffed at me as if I was less than dirt for dropping a little tomato on their floor.
My only advice to anyone who wants to give the buffet at Bellagio a try is to show up early. As we were leaving an hour later, the line had somehow quadrupled in size; it went out of the buffet area and into the casino somewhere with no end in sight.
All in all, give it a try! It's moderately priced for the food and a definite try for any Vegas vacation.
