| - DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY or TIME.
I want to preface this review to let readers know that over the past 20+ years, I have been to hundreds of spas around the world, however, many of them right here in the USA. The only reason Canyon Ranch is even getting a 1 star rating is because the ladies that provided the massages were very good. Upon entry to the spa, the girl at check in was apparently having a bad day, she was cold and rude..wow we thought..but whatever, everyone has a bad day now and then right? once we were taken to the entry point for the actual spa, we were greeted by 2 women, they were friendly but stern. Upon entry to the ladies locker room, the woman that brought us back made several loud stern announcements to everyone about NOT using their cell phones in the spa...NO ONE was on their phones...we later learned they do this frequently which is quite rude and not what one would expect at this EXPENSIVE & supposed luxury spa. So we eagerly change into our swim suits and tour the facility. The hot tub area was not clean and when you sit in the spa and look up, the lights were very rusty and filled with bugs. That was a disgusting site, so I decided to go into the Aroma Therapy room...should be relaxing right? NO...the speaker that plays the relaxing music was broken and made a buzzing noise like blowing on a thin piece of paper between your fingers...thoroughly irritating. Next up was the steam room...well that was a NO as well because it kept shutting off...for like 30-45 minutes each time...they said it wasn't working properly and they didn't know why ...really?? This spa also has these rain aroma therapy showers, that was cool, except for the fact the grout needed to be cleaned and/or touched up...it appeared to be moldy & gross. At this point I gave up using any of their facility and decided to wait in the quiet area and read until we were called for our massage. NOISY would describe the "quiet area" there was no real separation from the locker room so we were forced to endure the loud sounds of endless hair dryers, loud conversations over the hair dryers, the ladies yelling about NO CELL PHONES, etc. They really need to have a door separating this area from the lockers AND some type of water feature to drown out all the noise. Let me be clear...I'm ok with no use of cell phones policy, however, just being told once at check in is sufficient. Hearing people yell no cell phones in the "quiet areas" every 30 minutes is utter madness! Finally, we are escorted back to the massage room and along the way I noticed signage indicating other highlights & features of the spa, when i asked about a couple of them listed, I was told "the signs were old and those things were not here any more" I laughed and thought...seems par for the course for this run down mess they call a world class spa. Thank goodness the massage was good. Upon our departure, I asked to speak with the manager, he was very very nice and listened attentively as I politely let him know about what I saw. He seemed genuinely surprised & sent a woman back to look at all of the things I pointed out. After all that, all he did was apologize for any inconvenience and said he would let his supervisors know so that it could all get fixed...AND that he hopes to see us again soon...Bye and have a lovely evening. He never offered us anything to make up for the bad experience...like some type of discount to come back again after everything was fixed so we could truly utilize the amenities there...NOTHING..so after that, I thought, there is no way I would ever set foot in this place again. It was overpriced for what it is. I HAVE ONE WORD FOR THIS PLACE....REMODEL .... and then hire some happy employees!
