| - Well...this place was pretty good...not great I'm afraid. Vivace has held a solid spot for awhile at the Metropolitan My only encounter with the place was at a nicely executed cocktail party years ago, so I decided to take visiting family there.
Service was delayed due to poor timing of seating us to quickly after a giant table. We waited nearly 10 minutes for our server while another woman who brought us water (and claimed that was her only function on the staff that night) chatted to us kindly and politely answered our menu questions before tearing herself away to serve more water (I guess). I kind of think that any place that staffs people just to fill water glasses should be able to better handle taking care of relatively easy tables.
Although most of the food was good, I really wasn't wowed by anything. We had mussels followed by a mixture of specials and menu entrees. The mussels were strong flavored (livery) and briny. I was okay with the intense flavor, but the rest of the table didn't care for them. My wine glass appeared 10 minutes before the wine, served from a small carafe (always thought this was weird- either bring the glass of wine and repeat what I ordered, or serve it right from the bottle!). There were 4 of us, and we got exactly 4 pieces of bread-don't go overboard, guys! Entrees, all seafood, were very good. Side items and salad were great. The kitchen did well
On ambience- Several other large parties were seated and we soon found that the dining room can get so loud you can't hear your fellow diners. (Indoor voices, geez people...) so, another note would be that it's pretty loud on weekend nights. Had service been a little better, the entire experience would have been better. Since the food was good, I will probably give it another try at a later date.
