| - The Good
The two stars are for the AC guys I've had come out to my place. They've all been courteous and professional. I had my AC system stop blowing cold air and a guy came out and fixed it the next day. When I had them come out again to fix my leaky AC vent he told me that it would be a risky fix and mentioned that I might want to consider a new unit, but no pressure. I later called for an estimate and the man broke down the costs and what they would be doing, again, professional and helpful. I don't know if I got a fantastic price, but the install was quick and my new unit is great.
Now the bad.
When I first started getting estimates I was recommended over the phone to get their protection plan for about $10 a month that would get me discounts on the service. This is all I was told and I gave them my credit card details over the phone. A week later I got the paperwork in the mail which told me I was locked in to a year contract but I could cancel within 3 days of signing the contract. However, I wasn't told of these details and it was long after the 3 days I had to cancel. I do understand why it would be a year plan to keep people from just getting a large discount for one payment of $10, but I should have been informed of the terms.
When I got my estimate for my AC unit replacement a month after signing up for the protection plan, I noticed that it included a year of the protection plan. Cool right? I don't have to pay $10/month anymore. Nope. A month after having my unit installed I noticed a charge on my card for $10 from P&S. When I called to get it reversed (just a simple mix up, I thought) I was told that I was stuck with my month to month payments for the next year and then the free year would kick in, or I could get $69 refunded to my card, the worth of the year plan. When I mentioned that $10 multiplied by 12 months definitely doesn't equal $69 I
was told that the year plan that came with a large purchase was priced cheaper than the normal one (what?).
I've agreed to take the partial refund and continue paying for the rest of the year contract. I'll use the free inspections, but I'm canceling it as soon as the contract ends and I have no plans to pay Parker and Sons another cent.
