  • Ms. Lake did finally win my appeal for SSDI, so I give her a star for that! I also give her a star for her amazing ability to write a strongly worded letter to the Appeals Court. She was strong in her letter citing all of the reasons why I should have won during the hearing as well as citing how the Judge abused her power. Not so sure why it took her so long till she wrote that letter though? However, there were a lot of things that I was very disappointed with while dealing with Ms. Lake and her firm. She does not meet her clients at all. I felt like I did a lot of the work that she or her staff could have done or helped me with. Before she would take me for consideration, I had to file for SSD and then inform her that I did. At that point, she spoke with me for the first time and grilled me over the phone. She then took me on, sent me the forms to sign and return to her. She had me request a lot of my own medical records from my providers to be sent to her. Per my own OCD of wanting to win, I wrote her updates on my health and appointments. When I was at the hearing level after being denied a few times, she had an associate attend the hearing with me. I was called about 2 days before the hearing and made aware of what to expect (I was also told I got the worst Judge ever for approvals in that courtroom) and we reviewed some of my information. I met her associate at the hearing, and both the attorney and I felt like the hearing went well. About 4 weeks later, I was disheartened to learn that again I was denied. The next step was to go to the Appeals Level above the hearing level. I was told that my physicians needed to write strongly worded letters in support of me to the Appellate Judges. Next thing I know, "your a good writer, write the letters, send them to me to critique and for suggestions, which I did", I then had to rewrite that first one and write all the others to the standards of that requesting attorney, submit them to my physicians and ask them if they agreed to what was written, to sign and send to my attorney. I wondered what I was paying the attorneys for, as I felt like I was doing their work for them. BTW, over a 4 year course, she and I only spoke twice. The 2nd and last time was when she had her secretary place a call to me to congratulate me on my win. She at that time was bubbly and pleasant, gave me verbal advice on what not to allow my LTD insurer to push me to do and requested I write reviews for her. I had one request of her on that last phone call and that was to send me in writing the specifics of what not to let the LTD push me into as I would forget everything otherwise. She promised she would. Again, she let me down. I received the instructions on how to post a review on her but not the one little thing I requested. I left a message for her, office staff called back and said they'd let her know. No return Phone Call! So I sent her an email, again No response! If I had to start over, I would look at other attorneys. I would not hire Stephanie Lake and her firm again.
