| - Rise was part of my "try every donut in Charlotte" phase. I visited their Ballantyne location simply due to the convenience of my other activities that day.
Having a sweet tooth is the reason I'm not totally ripped because when I walk into shops like this, I end up walking out with WAY more than I need. If only the staff knew that dozen they boxed up was 50% for me (in one sitting).
The benefit of purchasing a dozen is being able to review several different tastes/style of donuts. I shared some of the more traditional powdered sugar, glazed and chocolate iced, with my family. The Nutella bomb and creme brûlée was for me.
The creme brûlée was good but the caramelized sugar was difficult not to lose in your lap. It's not my favorite flavor but the overall result did live up to the expectation. The Nutella bomb was also quite good. I visited a shop, Purebread, in Vancouver that made a very similar Nutella filled donut. Rise allowed me to enjoy the pastry much closer to home but when I'm in Vancouver, Purebread is the first place I want to visit. To make the Nutella more pliable, Rise has to stir something into it or whip it, maybe. For whatever reason, the Nutella seemed a bit different and not the same sense of chocolate over hazelnut, flavor. I'm unsure how Purebread accomplished the same task while maintaining the chocolate flavor but, Wow!
In short, the staff was very kind, the shop was clean and there seemed to be a real understanding of cleanliness standards. Great place to add to anyone's "try every donut in Charlotte" list!
