DO NOT TRUST any of the cruise America rentals!! regarding our rental experience with Route 66 rentals in upland who rented us a cruise America RV on July 14, 2016. At the counter we were told our refrigerator would not get cold for at least 6 hours but if we had any issues to call them back at that location before calling the 800 number if it was during their business hours. We picked up our RV and drove it to our house 2 miles away to put our things inside. Noticing the refrigerator still was not getting colder we decided not to get food yet until later in our trip. Shortly after we started off on the road. Immediately when I got on the freeway I noticed the RV was not kicking into gear it was making a revving sound and seemed stuck at 2 rpm. Concerned I called back to the location. I was told that it was a big engine and that there was nothing wrong and I should continue driving and all would be fine. Continuing along with issues of the vehicle not going any faster than 30 mph and the revving sound continued. So again I called back to the location expressing my concerns.as well as asking if the refrigerator should still not be turning on. And questioning the fact that when we picked up the RV it was on a hill slanted and not level I told them my expiriance was that that ruins the fridge and I hoped it would end up working. Was reassured that all was fine and to continue our trip. We called back 2 more times before hitting Victorville with the same response. Even after I told the guy on the phone that now the temperature gauge was reading hot.and the air was not working well since it seemed to be getting hot asking about the main air conditioning unit in the RV. He told us it could be turned on but would cost is 3.50 to use per hour and was safe to use while driving. I was never told the cost of the generator before leaving the location so I was upset and chose not to use it. Finally somewhere in the desert area I'm not exactly sure on the location since we had no phone service and saw no signs. The RV had a flashing red temp light go off on the dash. And smelled like a burning engine. So I pulled over on the first exit. This time we called the 800 number because we were getting nowhere with the upland location. Speaking with Jessica on the phone she told us to stay put and she would call us back. Remind u, we are sitting stranded in the desert unsure of our exact location with no water or food due to our refrigerator not working, with two children and a pregnant adult with no air conditioning. I asked her if I could give it a minute and try to get back on the road to a safer location since where we were was abandoned buildings and desert. I was told no. We continued to wait approximately 4 more hours u Til she called back and said a tow truck was in its way. But would not reach us for another hour and a half. At this time we are very hot. I asked again about moving and asked what would happen if I did it anyways due to the fact that our circumstances were not good at the moment and we needed water. She said she would call back after trying to get clearance to allow us to move but if I did so I would be charged for any damage done to the already broken RV. So we stayed put. Bout 30 mins later she called back and allowed us to drive to the next exit while she was on the phone. It was a closed exit so we continued another 6 miles to the next exit where there was a gas station. We got water and food and sat in the shade for another 2 hours Til we saw a tow truck pull in and park on the other side of the lot. He never came over to us so we walked over to him. We asked him if he with the tow truck who was supposed to be helping us. He told us He didn't know because he was not sure what kind of vehicle he was there for He thought it was a van. We called back to the number and they talked to him over the phone.we were then told to go with the tow truck driver in the back of his semi to a hotel in Las Vegas over 150 miles off our route. We were not given a option on which hotel so we were put in a hotel that was very dirty and unkept. At 9:30 am we received a call from Nathan at cruise America who told us to get a cab to the Las Vegas cruise America location 15 more miles off our route because our RV would not be use able. We arrived there and received a newer RV which I was greatful for and were told to drive to the machanic where the older RV we were originally given was located at to get our belongings out. And were told we would be reimbursed for our days and troubles and costs incurred due to this once we brought the newer RV back. Since we were now at least 200 miles off course of our route and were late for our arrival at our destination and were now incurring more charges we cut out our original plans to stop two other places since we lost two days due to the RV issues. This ruined our vacation plans so we returned the RV early and was charged FULL price!!!!
