  • When my husband and I moved to Nevada we had one dog and wanted to get her a friend since our new house had a large yard. We knew we wanted to rescue a dog as opposed to going to a pet store or breeder, so I added several of the local rescues on facebook and we started attending adoption events. I saw a post from the SPCA in April 2016 stating that they had 35 dogs from a hoarder's house and they needed foster homes for them, and several of them were puppies. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to meet a new dog without the commitment of keeping him/her forever if it wasn't the right fit. We started fostering a 5-month-old puppy, which we decided to adopt after 2 months of fostering. Since then, we have continued to foster for the SPCA and it is such a wonderful and rewarding process. In 2016 we fostered 23 puppies for them! All of the staff and volunteers love the animals and truly want whats best for them! If you have ever thought about fostering, the SPCA is WONDERFUL to work with! Wayne is our point of contact and he is responsive, friendly, helpful, and really cares about the animals! The SPCA provides you with everything you need while fostering, they give you food, potty pads, and blankets, they will also loan you crates and playpens that you return when the puppy is ready for adoption. Any medical needs the puppy has while in your possession are also covered by the SPCA through their in-house clinic. It is SUCH a great experience and we have met some of the most awesome friends through fostering. If you have any questions, please let me know! The best way to get involved is to drop in and ask for Wayne. He can give you more information about the process. Also, follow the SPCA on Facebook. They update their page daily with new puppies and kittens that need fostering. It's one of the most rewarding things I've ever done, my only regret is not getting involved in fostering sooner!
