| - Unfortunately, I have to seriously downgrade my previous 5-star rating. I don't know what's going on with this store's selection process, but it is a complete mess from the standpoint of both a buyer and a seller.
The quality of items is... not good. It's a struggle to find something that is not ripped, stained, or hasn't been worn and washed so many times that even a thrift store wouldn't put it out on the floor - and certainly wouldn't charge $10+ for it.
As a seller, I just don't get what they're doing. I have brought in current season brands from their wishlist, in brand new (with tags) condition, and been declined, or offered $1 for something they will sell for $12-$15. Meanwhile, they continue to stock the racks with tattered, torn, worn out rags.
The selling process is also complicated by the fact that you have to come back a second time on the day you drop off in order to receive payment (if you choose not to wait for them to go through your things, which can take 2+ hours). Unlike every other resale store in town, which simply donates the items they don't want and applies the value of the items they accept to your store account, Plato's necessitates that you pick up your rejects if you wish to receive your cash for the items they take. If you can't come back by the end of the same day, they donate all of your items and don't issue payment for anything. They claim that this is due to a Calgary bylaw which somehow does not affect any other resale store in town - every other store gives you several days to pick up your rejects, and if you don't want them back, you don't need to go back to the store for your payout.
I was very excited when Plato's first came to Calgary as I've had positive experiences with their stores in many other cities, but unfortunately this one completely misses the mark.
