| - My friend and her younger sis wanted to go to Bacchanal. They were at capacity and one of the hostesses told the group ahead of us that they were not taking any more people. Did we just get rejected at the Buffet? LOL. Truth be told, I was a bit relieved since I didn't want to eat at a buffet that night. Since we were already at Caesar's Palace and we had plans to go to XS that night, we ended up at Mesa Grill. We got seated immediately by the nice, smiling hostess. I'm surprised they let me in because I looked like a bum that day with my jean shorts and bright tank top.
We started off with an assortment of bread-jalapeno, jalapeno corn muffin, a nutty bread, and sourdough? I didn't taste all the bread so my bread descriptions suck. Of course, I need an adult beverage so I ordered Duvel, a golden ale. I love my Belgian beers! It was Restaurant Week at the time so my friend and her sis ordered something from the RW menu. Nothing really caught my eye on the RW menu so I decided to get the Ancho-Chile honey-glazed salmon (cooked medium). We shared the tuna nachos with mango, habanero hot sauce, & avocado crema for an appetizer. Wow, get the tuna nachos!
My friend and her sister ordered the chopped salad, grilled Berkshire pork porterhouse chop, Sixteen Spiced chicken, Tres Leches cake, and the salted caramel chocolate pudding. My salmon was cooked perfectly with the slight crispiness and flakiness on the outside and slightly under cooked and tender in the middle. It's exactly the way I prefer my salmon. The bold Southwestern flavor combination had a slight kick and all the flavors of black beans, tomatillos, and roasted jalapeno crema blended well together. Not only did it taste amazing, the bold, vibrant colors were so pretty to look at. I had a bite of everything. Every single thing was delicious! To end the meal, the salted caramel chocolate pudding put a smile on my face. it was so decadent and not overly sweet. I wanted to lick the bowl but that wouldn't look right in public so I didn't.
Our server Joel was professional, friendly, courteous, and even noticed my friend spilled some sticky sugar water on her purse and wiped if off for her. We all didn't notice. I didn't pay too much attention to the decor. It just looks like any fancy restaurant on the Strip. I did notice most people were dressed so I felt slightly uncomfortable there with my casual attire. If I had known I was coming here, I would have dressed up!
Mesa Grill is a prime example of what a celebrity chef's restaurant on the Strip should be - world class service from all employees as well as a fancy, clean atmosphere to enjoy your delicious, pricey Vegas meal!
