| - A review long due... And I was very reluctant to stamp a negative, but finally thought I should.
My case with them was a complete disaster. Expensive, painful, and dragging forever. I can't blame the guys entirely though - a person who accepted my work left the company half-way down the road, and whoever took it over did not feel quite comfortable with my ask - even though tried to be helpful. Suggested charge and extra time to complete the work were way beyond the initial estimate though, so I decided to cancel further intents.
Naturally, there was an expectation game. I was told by someone very excited, that Concept One is a #1 place in Calgary for anything VW. Well... in my opinion, that is most definitely not true. Maybe these guys would know stock work ok, but with my case (custom V-dub) they were absolutely and hopelessly at loss.
If they would only have just refused me flat out - but no, they've accepted the engine for overhaul, told me they can do that, and after almost a year dragging, and hundreds of dollars wasted, returned my engine in a basket case! With some parts lost and others damaged. That sucked. A lot!
On a positive note, recovering from Concept One disaster, I've found someone who did knew how to work on V-dubs, and not only had everything fixed professional grade, but let me participate - learning a lot in the process. These engines are actually tons of fun to work on...
It's just I would never - ever - recommend anyone to deal with Concept One on anything but maybe a stock VW bug. Or likely not even. Just based on my general feeling and conditions of the basket case I've observed. Lousy and rough work, seemingly done by an apprentice who couldn't care less.
So in my opinion, this is a no-go case. Sorry Concept One.
