  • Knowing my love for all things vintage, my husband booked a room here for three nights as a birthday surprise, along with tickets to the Counting Crows concert. Go, husband! From the chandeliers to the patterned carpeting, the whole vibe is very Wes Anderson-y. Yes, this hotel is old and hasn't been updated much since the 1920's, but our room was spotless. I'm one of those people that takes all the covers off the bed at a hotel to check for any ickiness, and there was none to be seen. The tile needed some work in the bathroom, but again, it was clean. They offer high-quality bath products, which is always nice to see, and the towels were a decent weight and size (instead of those paper-thin hand towels you get at chain hotels sometimes). We didn't really have the room temperature issue that others have mentioned, but I wish I would have thought to ask the front desk for a fan like Teresa did, just for the white noise factor. The staff was helpful and friendly, especially the guy with the glasses. I made a mental note to remember his name, but... yeah, I've slept since then. The pool area was beautiful and well-kept, but unfortunately, we didn't get to take advantage of it because we visited in October, when it's just starting to get a little "chilly" in Phoenix. Still, it was nice to sit around and relax in the evenings. The location of the hotel is great... very close to lots of good restaurants and light rail stops. We didn't have a car during our stay so I don't have any comments about the parking, although the guys at the valet stand were always very nice. I think my only complaint would be the transoms above the room doors. They're thin, louvered vinyl and provide zero buffer from any hallway noise. I had to have some words with our mouthy, active neighbors at around 2:00 in the morning on our first night there. Thankfully, they checked out the next morning. I would definitely stay here again.
