Been seeing snapchats of Thai rolled ice cream from all my friends so had to check out Zero Below when I discovered it while walking on Coventry. I came with an air of skepticism - would the process of making the rolled ice cream simply look cool or would the ice cream actually taste better as a result? Is a purchase merely a moment for the snap and the gram or would it yield palette-ary satisfaction?
There are about 12 different ice cream flavors to choose from along with a choice of 3 toppings. I ordered the cookies and cream with toppings of strawberry, oreo and toasted coconut. The ice cream making process was truly unique - the ice cream is beaten, cut, smoothed out and then beaten some more on a cold top that simultaneously freezes the ice cream and gives it a solid structure. They are then "rolled" into cute little ice cream fruit roll-up type designs with the toppings on top.
Ice cream is tasty, but would not say the taste is much dissimilar from regular ice cream. The only difference is a very subtle textural component that is difficult to describe. The Thai rolled ice cream feels a bit more 'crispy'. The best way to understand what this means is to try it yourself!
