| - About a year ago, I noticed my black lab starting to limp. After taking her to her regular vet and then a local orthopedic specialist, she was diagnosed with a torn ACL and surgery was recommended to repair the injury. I was shocked at the price for the TPLO/TTA surgery, which is considered the new gold standard of surgeries. I wanted to help my dog from the pain she was experiencing, but unfortunately couldn't afford such an expensive procedure.
I sought a number of alternatives prior to seeing Dr. Reck. Although she is not an orthopedic specialist, she is trained and licensed in a procedure called lateral suture repair and had performed the surgery numerous times prior. Dr. Reck said that my pup would be a good candidate for the procedure. Additionally, she said that anything that happened to my dog in the following year would be covered under the initial cost of the procedure. Being a more cost effective alternative, with a doctor who such pride and care of her animal patients, I decided to go with this surgery.
Unfortunately, nine months after the surgery and a post-op tightening procedure on the suture, my dog still has not gained full use of her lame leg. We have seen Dr. Reck numerous times in that period, and each time she did not hesitate to offer relief for the pain through anti-inflammatory medication, weight loss methods, massage techniques, additional X-rays and as mentioned, the tightening procedure (which was another surgery). And as she promised, it was at no cost to me.
During my last appointment with Dr. Reck, I mentioned that I would be taking my dog to rehabilitation. And if she still does not recover, I will eventually have to go with that gold standard of surgery. Dr. Reck agreed that this was the best route to take after not seeing improvement in the months that followed the procedure. And to my surprise, Dr. Reck humbly refunded the cost of the surgery to me.
Dr. Reck is not only a compassionate vet, but a wonderful business owner. She treated my dog and me with the utmost respect and care. Unfortunately, not all cases can be success stories, but Dr. Reck handled the situation as best she could given the circumstances and acknowledged that there might be a better solution. Thank you so much, Dr. Reck, for your time and patience in trying to help my dog.
