  • Two of us dining & big fans of east Indian food. Our first time here - using Groupon. The service was very good with lots of attentive employees making sure we were well taken care of. They bring a little crispy bread with 2 sauces shortly after your sit down. The mint sauce was great, the other way too sweet, esp. prior to dinner. They had some good wines by the glass. We opted for a bottle of one of our favs, 14 Hands Cab. I liked the ambiance and lighting though the Indian music got a little screechy sometimes, which is normal, I guess. Our American wait person was very personable. Another wait person was a friendly Indian man who also took care of us. We ordered with the idea of sharing. We started with a "smashed eggplant & peas" for appetizer (under veg meals). It was great and super spicy - we had asked for level 4 and whew, glad we didn't order higher. We then order a chicken tandoori and a curry fish of the day. I had first asked what the fish was and told Mahi mahi, which we both like. Turns out it was Tilapia which we don't care for. The texture was nice and flaky but it had that Tilapia taste - very different from Mahi Mahi. The curry was great! The chicken tandoori (called 007) was also very good. We would order it again for sure. The ambiance sort of changed when we were told the following: the owner KEEPS the tips of the waiters, or atleast that's what both waiters told us. They asked if we'd pay them cash instead of adding to our Amex. We did. Eating out is our entertainment - do it a lot. Never had we heard of this. Apparantly the Indian owner told them that's how it's done in India. Well, this isn't India. Another couple were told the same thing and also gave tips in cash. It's possible the owner just wants to skip the credit card fee on tips - who knows. Though the food was great, we didn't care for the dishonest feel of things. Not sure if we'll return.
