| - I went, I saw, I left.
After seeing a lot of friends post pictures of their Christmas Market escapades and 'fun', I decided to see it for myself. After all these years living in Toronto, I haven't once been to this annual tradition for many.
The bf and I went on a Sunday afternoon and while it may have been slower because it was a Sunday...it was really...just slow. There was no hustling or bustling of people trying out different foods and carrying around parcels of their purchases. Just a lot of people wandering around and looking pretty underwhelmed and bored.
I had hoped there would be plenty of nice booths to visit, selling some Christmas treats, knick knacks, etc. but was disappointed to see only a handful of booths actually selling items directly related to the holidays. A lot of the treats I could have purchased anywhere, and looked very overpriced. There was a carnival-like area for kids with a ferris wheel and some other rides, so families with kids might like this area. Also there is a Kinder Surprise booth set up for kids, so all kids 12 and under can go and get a free gigantic Kinder chocolate egg.
The area where the food booths were concentrated were equally underwhelming - most booths carried the same food items (mulled wine, mulled wine, and the odd schnitzel offerings here and there). There were turkey legs and sausages that were larger than regular store-sold ones, but hardly a novelty.
The tree in the Market's 'square' was probably the most iconic 'must see' for this market, but if you want to see a a nice tree and have the space to take a picture with it, I think the one at Yorkdale Mall is beautiful this year.
All in all, I think we spent about 30 minutes here before I suggested we walk over to the antiques market at St. Lawrence Market nearby (much more interesting).
