| - Asking an old pal from Cleveland to describe Visible Voice before we decided to check it out, I got something close to this: "Pretty much everything about everything I'm interested in, plus a bunch of other great stuff, all crammed into a little bookstore. Great place." That's probably butchering the actual quote (in fact, I know it is), but the general idea was spot on: Visible Voice would probably be anathema to the contents of my wallet if I lived anywhere within ten miles of the store.
Tucked back onto a little residential street in Tremont, Visible Voice features a huge variety of good options to choose from in a wide range of genres, topics, and the like. Their music and art-related sections are wonderful, and any place that prominently features a wide selection of quality graphic novels is fine in my book. Although I did get a bit of the hipster vibe from the place as far as what it featured and how it was put together, I didn't receive any of the normal elitism that tends to accompany that. The folks working there was friendly, helpful, and took the time to direct us to Sokolowski's (right up the street - go eat there and come back to VV afterwards to read and let the ol' stomachs settle). Comfortable seating and a general feeling of being able to just chill and read through whatever you'd like to before you buy it. Also, they offer a great selection of unique cards, post-it notes, and other fun stuff.
Clean, accessible, friendly staff, great selection. I really love this store.
