| - I really enjoyed Halo-Halo. A friend brought me here for lunch on a Thursday, and there was a decent sized line at 11:30, which is a good sign to me. Another good sign was that the place was packed with a bunch of Filipino/as of all ages! You know that this place must be good when the regulars definitely know what authentic Filipino cuisine tastes like!
The ordering process is definitely Panda Express-esque. This was a part that I didn't like about this dining experience, given the fact that I could have ordered one large entree of just pancit and called it a day, not needing another entree and a side. But, doing what everyone else was doing, I got the two-entree plate with white rice, pancit, and chicken pastel. They have American food options as well, in case someone in your party isn't down for the Filipino fare.
The pancit was truly delicious. Evenly balanced between noodles, proteins and veggies, it really did hit the spot for my pancit craving. The white rice, well, it was white rice. Not much to say there. The chicken pastel was also quite good as well. The only complaint would be that there were small bone fragments strewn throughout the curry-like stew, which made the meal a bit awkward as I had to spit a few bites out.
They also have authentic dessert items like plantain lumpia, boba drinks, etc. I had one of the plantain lumpia items, and it was okay. Not sweet enough for my personal dessert taste, but definitely not bad.
The prices are beyond fair for the amount and the quality that you get. Service is virtually nonexistent the second you leave the checkout counter. Oh- and keep in mind that when you are finished you take your dishes and your tray to the trash can area, clean your plate, and leave it there versus having someone buss the table for you. Of course, when the craving for some good pancit arrives again, I would probably make the drive to Halo-Halo.
