  • We went to The Bank and Baron pub a couple of days ago - we were new in town and this place caught our eye as we were looking for dinner. There are some positives; the building is an old bank and has been interestingly renovated into a large pub - the decor is nice, the tables aren't too crowded and there are still some old bank features to give the place atmosphere. I have seen plenty of places with larger beer menus but the choice here is pretty good and my pint was local, interesting and cold. The reason for the two-star review is the food! I chose the Fish and Chips. When they arrived, the fries were fine, nothing spectacular but quite okay - but the fish was absolutely vile. I got two fillets , each maybe a eighth of an inch thick, buried in a two-inch thick spongy shell of undercooked batter. When I cut into it, the batter was pale white greasy paste tasting of raw flour. I didn't complain and I should - but when the server returned with the check, he eyed the untouched meal but said nothing - he had clearly been there more than once. The bottom line - drinking here could be fun, but if you want your evening to go well, eat somewhere else. Anywhere else.
