| - As a Concierge, I don't like Yelp-for many reasons. But I also know that so many people use it for recommendations, so here is my Concierge Approved review:
I've been a loyal returning customer since 2001 when I came in after a terrible experience at a nearby salon. Shawna G. was amazing! She not only fixed my hair, she taught me how to take care of it and gave me great advice for my future salon visits. I loved my experience with her so much that 14 years later, I'm still a loyal customer! Even when I was living out in the West Valley (45-60 min away) I still came in to get my hair done by her.
I have a saying that I tell all my friends, family, and guests: "It's not the salon, it's the stylist." Of course I've seen some bad outcomes from Fantastic Sam's (me being one of them), Great Clips, Supercuts, Toni & Guy...etc., but the brand doesn't always have much to do with the quality of the stylist. I've gotten my hair done at a very high end well known salon, and they ruined my hair. So, where did I go get it fixed at? Shawna @ this Fantastic Sam's.
I recently moved back to Old Town Scottsdale and when I dropped by for a haircut, Shawna was, no surprise because she's amazing, booked solid. Behind her I see this small blonde girl waving at me saying, "I can take you!" I looked at her with an expression on my face that said, 'how dare you think I'll let you touch my hair.' (Let it be known that since making my own beauty decisions, only 7 different people have ever touched my hair) Well, I sized her up, looked at Shawna and she gave me the ok to sit with Ami R. It also helped calm me down that Ami could easily pass as Shawna's little sister.
Once again, Shawna didn't let me down. She wouldn't. Ami was great! These two women have been taking care of me from red to blonde and all the highlights in between. I now see more of Ami because our schedules work better together. They don't take appointments, but you can call ahead if your within 5 minutes. I've now become good friends with Ami and I trust her just as much as I do Shawna. I can come in, sit down and not say much and I'll still walk out happy. I pretty much call ahead, say I'm going to an evemt, show up, and Ami goes at it. They care about who sits in their chair. They get to know them, and they remember! You don't get that personal quality service much anymore. So for this Fantastic Sam's, they've got some real gems with these two. Most of their staff is really nice and engages everyone into conversation, but Shawna and Ami are my favorites!
