That's how I feel after taking my car to Midas. I just moved to the city and my car started to make a crunching noise when I drove over bumps. I took it to Midas because it's near my work. After two days, they called and told me that my shocks were making the noise and I needed a second repair (my car was unsafe?). Thing is, my car had just been inspected when I imported it from the US so I thought that it was strange that so many things were wrong. Anyway, I ok'd the repairs (my bad) and spent $1500. When I drove away, my car was making the EXACT same noise I had dropped it off for! I called and the guy at the front desk said that I needed to give my shocks a few days to settle (did anyone even see if the problem was solved?). After a few weeks the noise hadn't changed and so I took the car back for another look. Midas spent another two days looking at the car before concluding that they didn't know what was wrong. So, after $1500 in "repairs" I have the same problem I went in with. They were also very clear that it wasn't their responsibility that none of their repairs had fixed the problem.
So, from this experience, I have learned that if you don't have a mechanic you trust (I miss you Advantec) you need a second opinion. Don't make my mistake, get a better diagnostician than the people at Midas.
Jan 21, 2013. This is just a little update. My windshield wiper fluid light just went on and when I went to open my hood to top up, my interior hood latch was broken. There was no way to open the hood. The last time it was opened, it was at Midas, so I can only assume that it broke there and no one bothered to mention it to me. I watched a YouTube video and figured out how to open the hood from the outside. When I did, the lid on the windshield wiper fluid container was open. I know they filled it up for me when I was in the shop last (thank-you), but why not close the lid? I checked and that seal on it is still tight.
I so rarely write bad reviews on Yelp, but getting work done at this place has just been so consistently negative.
