| - Below is my rating of j&g steakhouse based on the food I ordered, the atmosphere and the service. I booked through yelp and added a note that it was for my parents anniversary dinner and could we possibly have a great table to enjoy the view from. I called to verify the reservation a day ahead and they indeed knew it was an anniversary dinner but when we arrived the table they gave us was... Well, standard? The whole place has a nice view but I was anticipating something closer to the windows.
Once we ordered our food they brought out some bread rolls and butter. 2/5. Nothing to write home about. Meh.
We ordered the tuna tartare as a starter. 4/5 - delicious! Seriously yummy.
I then ordered the sunset menu from which you choose a starter, an entree and a dessert.
Starter I chose was a romaine salad. 3/5. Tasty at first...but overdressed. We all agreed there was some sort of Dijon mustard and lemon zest flavor going on. I didn't finish it because it wasn't that good.
Salmon - 5/5 holy God in heaven, I will return for this alone. I ordered it well done and it came as requested. It was tender, moist, tasty. and with every bite you get a forkful of buttery, garlicky mashed potatoes. Amazing. I was expecting the snap peas it came with to be fresh but they were cooked. No big deal. This meal is a winner. The 3 of us agreed the entree was excellent.
Dessert was a warm chocolate cake (molten style) with some flavorless ice cream on the side,2/5. Cake was ok, ice cream was... No thanks. We also had cappuccinos which were standard. The capps were comped since it was a special dinner and no extra desserts were ordered outside of our sunset menus so that was a nice gesture.
Atmosphere 5/5 - dark, quiet, loungy, romantic. Great viee of the sunset, the resort and the city lights below. Service 5/5- everyone was friendly, prompt and checked in on us just enough. No complaints there. Classy folks, UNLIKE the snotty folks working at another fancy restaurant on a different mountain I've reviewed before... Anyway.
The ambiance is special and the view is beautiful, the entree was perfect, the service was great and I will be back for more. I just won't go with high expectations for the bread rolls or the desserts.
