I thought I had finally found a waxing center that was close to painless! I was so happy that I bought a expensive waxing package. After going a few more times and being completely satisfied, I booked an appointment to have my eyebrows waxed on my lunch hour. Just a quick touch up.
I got in quickly and we got started. This time I noticed that the waxing hurt a lot more than usual and was HOT! I expressed my concern and the temperature of the wax was turned down...but something still wasn't right. The wax was not only being put on my eyebrows but on my eyelids below my bone (I didn't have any hair on my eyelids!). As we finished up, the girl tells me that "my eyebrows lifted a little but it wasn't too noticeable". In a rush to get back to work, I quickly looked in the mirror and noticed my eyebrows and eyelids were extremely red and starting to swell...but knowing that my skin is very sensitive I didn't pay too much attention and I was running late getting back to work. THAT WAS A MISTAKE! A HUGE MISTAKE ON MY PART! As I checked out I did find it a little odd that the girl at the checkout counter asked if I was ok as she was staring at me. I said yes and left. As I'm driving back to work the area that was waxed was BURNING! As I arrived at work, I looked in the car vanity mirror to see why I was burning so bad...well that's because the majority of my skin on my eyelids was completely taken off!!! I went into work and my coworker helped me put some burn cream on my eyelids. Let me just say this was soooooo painful and the cream wouldn't even stay on because the burns were weeping so much.
After using burn cream all afternoon and evening, the next morning I called the European Wax Center location I had gone to and spoke to Nicole (she was so helpful and sympathetic). After telling her what happened she advised me to use neosporin and cortisone cream on my burns. I did that all day until the next afternoon. After 3 days scabs were finally forming but I had some yellow drainage. My friend and I went into the location to try to speak with a manager. Marissa was so sympathetic as I told her what happened and shocked when I took off my sunglasses to show her my burns. She said the manager wasn't in but she would have her call me, I left my name and number.
Then I got the pleasure of Vanessa the manager to call me. Without ever seeing my burnt eyelids, right away she told me their wax isn't hot enough to burn anyone therefore I wasn't burnt but I was having an allergic reaction. She advised me to go home and put ice on my eyes and take Benedryl. When I could finally get a word in, I explained to her that I have worked in the medical field for over 18 years and I knew the difference between an allergic reaction and a burn (especially since I did a rotation in a burn unit). She went on to say that many doctors and nurses have appointments there and that if my skin was burnt it was because I did it to myself by putting ointment on an allergic reaction. What?!?! So I'm assuming she knows this because she works in the medical field??? She was so rude and unsympathetic...she just plain and simple didn't care. She shouldn't be in a management position because she definitely lacks people skills and she certainly shouldn't be giving out medical advised because she certainly doesn't know anything about that either! After speaking with Vanessa, I had decided I wasn't going to ever go back there again. At this point I just wanted my money back for the remainder of the package I paid for. She agreed to reimburse me and I gave her my card info.
A week had passed...still no reimbursement. By this point I had gone to the doctor because so many layers of skin were taken off and it wasn't healing. I had to pay cash because I don't have insurance at the moment and had to pay for a prescription ointment and an antibiotic because my burns were in fact infected. I called and spoke to Nicole and Marissa...they both took care of calling Vanessa to get me reimbursed. I could have easily had EWC pay for my medical expenses and I should have due to Vanessa's rudeness and unprofessionalism.
My eyelids are slowly healing but there will be scars. The wax should have never been that hot and the wax should have never been on my eyelids and I should have paid more attention instead of trying to get back to work. Lesson learned.
Worst experience of my life! Had Vanessa treated me differently and had listened to what I was saying, this could have ended differently...I mean I would still be burnt but I would probably still be a customer and not leaving a bad review. Nicole and Marissa are the only reason I'm giving a star at all.
