| - I am a high limit video poker player and experienced several problems after the first day gambling at the Tropicana.
The first problem started when a casino host called me on the phone and said she would give me free play, and then sent me a personalized email (listing the dates and free play dollar amounts she was giving me). Then a few days later I received (in the mail) the normal Trop monthly mailer with free play offers. When I tried to cash in the mailer offers, I was told that was the same offer as what my casino host had already sent me, so the mailer was not valid. Therefore, the casino host mislead me in stating she was offering me free play (as I would have gotten the monthly mailer free play, based on my previous play, regardless of the casino host).
The Second problem was the high limit machine I was playing (and previously lost $10,000 on), was changed on the second day I went to play. Apparently, someone at the Trop was still not satisfied with my 10 grand loss, so they lowered the pay table (and in turn, made the odds much worse).
The third problem was with the remaining monthly free play offers the Trop had already given me. The Trop said they would no longer honor them because I was not playing enough. I know all casinos adjust comps on a monthly basis (based on the amount of play). But only the Trop seems to adjust comps on a daily basis, and if they don't feel you are gambling enough, they will not honor offers they already gave you.
Once again, no one expects a casino to continue giving offers to someone who is not playing. But any offers made to a player previously, should be honored (After all, I earned those comps based on my previous play/losses).
I did complain to a casino host, and she had some of my offers reinstated (but at lower dollar amounts than what was originally given to me). I also sent an email to Tropicana senior management, that outlined my problem, but they never responded. The only reason why I am rating this casino as a 2 star, rather than a 1 star, is they did try to make some amends (afterall, they could have offerred me nothing....so they deserve an extra star just for the effort).
As far as the hotel itself....they did a pretty good job in renovating it....but they have limited selections of resturants and amenties (when compared to other strip hotels). The bottom line is, I would not recommend staying here, unless their prices are substantially less than the neighboring strip hotels.
