Saying goodbye to your family member is never easy.... in fact it's terrible and I recently had to do this with my first dog nala. Everything ended up happening so fast and I was happy I was able to get an appointment quick enough to not keep my girl in pain for too long. While saying goodbye sucked the process was very easy. The vet she did a great job explaining everything. Was calm reassuring and I never felt rushed pressured or anything.
The best part of saying good bye at home is my other three dogs got to say goodbye too. I feel this helped with their transition too. I also was happy to be at home because I was an epic disaster but felt safe to cry and grieve In my own home. I always cry every time I see the candle burning at the vets office and while I know sometimes circumstances demand that being at home was comforting. I honestly don't think there could have been a better more peaceful way to say goodbye to my first born furbaby.
