  • Been going to Hand and Stone for about a year. They hooked me with the $49 first time offer and then a "membership" that requires automatic $59 credit card charge for a monthly treatment (facial or massage) or it would cost somewhere near $90. So I went a few times, had to deal with an additional cash payment ($30) at each treatment and despite my poor performance reviews (they email and email and email you for your 30 minute survey) they kept assigning the same technician. I finally just stopped going but failed to stop the $59 monthly charge. A number of months later, I contacted them for refund .. Not Possible, ever .. you can quit the program and have time to use up the unused (8 treatment), which can be used ONLY for service, not product or gift cards, service only. So I made an appointment and again, the same pushy upsale technician ushers me into the treatment room. I figure she's the only person they have. I make another appointment (mind you they have over $400 in service they will not refund. and I am now advised I have to use up the backed up treatments within 90 days or lose the paid fees. When I showed up for the second appointment after stopping the membership, I was advised Ms. pushy technician has recently left and I was introduced to another technician. Hand and Stone technicians are not tested. Senior technicians are not based on skill, but tenure? maybe. Whether they have additional training is up the the technician. I have had wonderful massages. Facials, however, are another story. Right now my face is burning like the skin is ready to peel. It appears to be a corporate culture to UPSELL, UPSELL UPSELL. Too much product on a face will eventually burn the crap out of a client's face. No problem for the technician, she will attempt to sell you a "cooling" serum. In the meantime, they still have over $200 in my service. I finally had to reup because "my use it or lose it 90 days had expired." I will not have another facial. I will continue with the massage because the gal is terrific. I'm certain she brought the skills with her and Hand and Stone has nothing to do with her qualifications. It's been a few days now and I have two patches on my face that look like alligator skin from the chemical burns. I am applying moisturizer and neosporan a few times a day but it will be a while before the skin is healed and I expect it will be sun sensitive from here on out ... on my jaw line, great! Thank you Hand and Stone. I will be looking for another spa center. I will watch the newspaper for the day the city Solicitor takes them to task for failure to refund
