  • Bookstores, like coffee shops, are magical places to me, like secular places of worship. I could happily spend hours in either. Independent booksellers used to be ubiquitous. Sadly those days are long gone. How fortunate we are to still have some great places like Amber Unicorn. I was warmly greeted by the owner, practically the moment I walked in the door. I asked if he had a couple Mark Kurlansky titles I had been searching for and he immediately got up and led me to the cookbook section. When we didn't find any copies he went to the back and got his wife involved in the search. Outstanding, personalized customer service. Not easy to come by these days, and not what corporate book stores are known for. Great location, in the Trader Joe's parking lot right between Mochiko Chicken and Amena Bakery & Deli. Mikey C says: Screw the trees, buy a book!
