  • Surprised the hell out of me. Had to go to a large venue to see The Dead this weekend. Not a fan of crowds or the nonsense that accompanies them. Read a lot of reviews and went expecting security nazi's to be putting the boot to folks... Some reviews talked about security calling the cops for tailgaters, too many restrictions, outrageous prices, congested parking and forever to get in and out are just a few. I was surprised to find very little of this in reality. Enjoyed a couple beers in the parking lot and while standing in (the long) line (which incidentally moved pretty smoothly due to security having their act together) They do limit what you can bring in, so take advantage of that 6th grade education and look it up online and you won't be surprised when they don't let you bring in a life raft. Concession prices could be better but they were not out of line with the market. We sat on the hill and the evening was pleasant given the time of year. Of course you will inevitably find yourself behind that special person with virtually no rhythm or sex appeal that feels compelled to dance every song to some chemically altered choreography. Speaking of chemically altered... it's been long enough since I have been to this type concert that I was amazed at the aromatic variety of marijuana available these days and again security did not put a boot to anyone's neck that I saw. The Dead was amazing... Mayer is not Jerry, but I had no trouble believing this was 1974 and the original band was still alive and kicking. If you were on the fence and opted out on this concert... don't kick yourself, but definitely invest whatever you need to see them next time... anyway... the dead was great... the venue is a hillside (with excellent audio and video)
