  • I don't often give five stars, and you'll notice that this review is four, but I went back and forth a couple of times. I am so pleased that this Market District is 10 minutes from home. It has everything food that you would need for a normal day or an event. What most impresses me is the constant change. They are not resting on their laurels. About every two-four months, I notice either a new configuration to make room for something else, or an area closed for expansion. Not renovation. It doesn't get in the way-I don't know how they do it, but even when they are expanding, the construction isn't am obstruction. Your neighborhood market is not just for odds and ends, either. We often go to the cheese counter (which is a department) to get flavors from around the world, including great meats and spreads. The artisan bread counter is right down the way, and that leads to the prepared foods department for food on the go. I am a regular at the sushi kiosk, and now that they've added Wednesday sushi sales, I can get my weekly sushi fix for $5! It's fresh, tasty, and they have a nice variety. Lastly, the craft beer department. I have seen this area go from a couple of aisles to a full-blown six-pack shop of the largest variety in Pittsburgh. There's a bar there now, too! What?! In Giant Eagle?! Kind of amazing when you grew up going to the old kind of Giant Eagle. Why only 4 stars, then? The technology and the customer service desk guy. I love self-scan registers, but there is way too much margin for error. There isn't a time when I'm checking out when I don't see flashing numbers above the registers. The Customer service guy is snappy. He's always having a bad day. Other than that, keep it up, MD.
