This was my first Yelp Elite Event ever. I must say this restaurant has quite the buzz to it and the reviews are all complimentary for the most part. Ricky the restaurant manager, was a great host and very energetic guy. You can feel the passion he has for his food.
The event was a good way to hear about the food, try the food, meet other elites and also meet and talk Kris.
Okay so let talk about the food. We started a complimentary lychee juice with ginger ale or prosecco. Sweet and lychee forward tasting. For food we started off with a off seared tuna on top of a rice cake. It's had a straight kick to you mouth from the Serrano chilli. The next item has a savoury pork jowl. It was crispy has a slight sweetness with a great umaminess to it. Wish it was bigger but Ricky did mention it sells out pretty quickly. It can eat dry but I really enjoyed it. The highlight for me for the prawn toast with the nuoc cham. It was bright, sweet, cilantro-y highlights. It like a good fired crab claw you would get at a dim sum place but in a lighter note delicate package. The fried chicken mantou was good. It maintained its juiciness because of the chicken thigh. The kimchi adds that bite and acidity to the dish. The mantou itself sops up the juices. This dish is not on the menu and like chicken and waffles I'm not sure the chicken needed the mantou. The last was the truffles fried rice. This one was a head scratcher, it's definitely good but I'm at a loss of how to describe how it tasted. It umami and complex. There's a quail egg to add richness to the dish. Great way to end off the meal.
Kris was also a great host helping some of first time yelp elites feel comfortable and helping us along. I definitely look forward to meeting more yelp elites at these events and look forward to the next event that Kris hosts.
