  • Alright sweet tooth fans, this post is for you!!! I know what you're thinking, "Why would you do a post on a frozen yogurt place when it's bloody cold outside? The answer is easy, there's always a good time to eat frozen yogurt and Gurts doesn't just serve frozen yogurt, they also serve grilled sandwiches, soup, teas and freshly baked goods. So whatever season we are in, Gurts is a great place to go. If you have ever been to the big chain froyo places, then you know how it works. You grab a cup, fill it with frozen yogurt, and choose from an array of toppings. Anything from fruit to all of the chocolate covered candy out there and everything in between. Depending on the season, Gurt's will have more flavours of yogurt as well. In the warmer months they'll have up to 11 flavours of yogurt. Since we're in the colder months, there were 4 different flavours. Once you're finished picking the yogurt and piling all of the toppings, you bring the cup to the clerk and you're charged by the weight of the cup and the ingredients inside. With all of the toppings available it is easy to over indulge and it can get quite costly so keep that in mind when adding your toppings. If you're indecisive like me, you can get a sample of each yogurt to help you make your decision a little easier. I decided to go with a simple vanilla yogurt with colourful sprinkles (for the pictures sake) and chocolate chips. Now I am not a yogurt connoisseur but this yogurt tasted a lot better than the typical chain yo-fro I have been too. The yogurt was a lot creamier, smoother, not nearly as sweet and it didn't taste fake. This is because the yogurt Gurts uses is a fat free liquid based yogurt and not a powder based. The sprinkles and chocolate chips that I added tasted really fresh and not stale. Gurts also offers soups, grilled sandwiches, teas, freshly baked cookies and different pastries. I decided to grab this cookie because it speaks volumes on what I am trying to do here. Shop local and Roncesvalles is making it really easy to do just that. If you're ever in the mood for frozen yogurt, a nice loose leaf tea or a freshly baked goodie, Gurts is a great place to go.
