  • Sky Blue Sky is simply the best! This is an old time sandwich shop bordering the Annex and Koreatown. It's on the second layer so look up and be greeted by its baby blue and cloudy decor. Chad and his team take the time to build their sandwiches (lots of time, sometimes), and if this time is an issue for you it is very easy to email or phone in an order in advance and they will have it waiting for you in a brown paper bag. I often don't mind sitting and chatting in the cute shop while they build my sandwich. Time kind of slows down when you're here, which is one of my favourite things. Chad has an amazing memory and remembers a lot about his customers. It makes going here feel like a small town place and you always feel welcome. Everyone is actually so nice and if anyone ever talks smack about this city, just take them to SBS and show them who's boss! I can't tell you how many times I've been here and how many SBS diehards I have recruited. I always recommend the Casino Queen for first timers, but this is only because it is my SBS kryptonite. Featuring sliced turkey, avocado, the crispiest of bacon and glorious, balsamic caramelized onions, the Casino Queen is a lady with some majestic powers. Their most popular is the Kingpin and sometimes if you go too late it's sold out. That's how fresh everything is here. The odes to Wilco here are blatant and undeniable. Each sandwich is named after a song and sometimes if you're lucky you might even hear this song playing amidst their folk-alternative that so consistently graces their airwaves. There's always different soups and feature sandwiches to keep things interesting should one ever get bored with the 30+ sandwich variations this little shop offers. (I didn't double check that number, but I'm confident it's true). And the prices are so good, when I worked in the area I came here a couple times a week sometimes. I hate to say it, but don't listen to the people who gave this shop a bad rating. It's simply not possible! This is a great, friendly and delicious sandwich shop with homemade breads and a variety of ingredients. I find it hard to believe anyone would dislike this place!
