Before taking this course I had NEVER been on a street bike. I grew up hearing all the stories about my family riding and I have always had an interest. I have been on dirtbikes & quads but nothing street legal.
The class starts off with classroom time where the instructor goes through and covers the manual. Although it was 5 hours, it went fairly quickly. Angela did everything she could to make sure we were engaged and learning. We even got a dinner break, which helps alot! The test was easy and once it's done - you are ready to have some fun!
They are extremely time conscious and make it very clear from the day you register you MUST be on time. When Saturday came, unfortunately for me, I was late. I read some of the reviews about the lack of customer service and I promise you, although it wasn't their fault I was late, Angela did everything she could to help me. Once I calmed down, very upset with myself I even was late, I emailed her and I could tell she really cared. Her email was so sweet and even made me tear up in her attempt to make me feel better. She told me I would be treated as a "stand-by" and had 30 days to complete the riding portion of the course. I had made the plan the following weekend to arrive early, at both times, just to make sure I could get in. Luckily for me, Friday afternoon I received a call from Angela letting me know there was a space!
Now onto the fun stuff! Like I stated earlier, I had never been on a street bike until this class. I was extremely nervous the first day and when Don mentioned that the class had a few minutes to go to the bathroom, get a drink or throw up I was seriously considering the latter. The first day starts off kinda slow but helps develop & reiterate the important basics. By the end of the first day I felt so much more confident and relaxed. I was even amazed at how comfortable I was. Day 2 was MUCH MORE FUN & relaxed. We did things we talked about in the class that made my stomach turn but since I felt more confident - it didn't even phase me! You are evaluated the 2nd day which can be a bit nerve racking BUT as long as you stay out of your own head & remember what you are taught, you will be fine! Keep your head & chin up & look where you want to go! :) I even got a perfect score on part of the evaluation I thought I would flunk! Perfect score is zero & I got a 9! Which for a beginner isn't too bad in my book.
I would highly recommend this course to anyone! Angela & Don are amazing! Anytime I had a question or needed clarification, they took the time to explain & make sure I knew what the objectives were. They made it a point to explain what I was doing wrong and HOW I needed to make the corrections. The thumbs up or "yay" when riding by after making the corrections really helps know you are doing the right thing!!! They really are professionals and notice the things you may not even realize you are doing. I learned so much and will be back for the next class.
My only criticism (I know RideSmart can't do anything about this) is a little bit more time with each objective. You get 2-3 attempts during each lesson but a couple more would be great!
