  • I bought BeeKay, my Japanese vintage ride, off of Craigslist a few weeks ago. It was love at first sight. Our first ride together was bumpy at first, but once I had him wrangle into submission, he and I became the best of friends after. After spending some time with him, I realized that BeeKay wasn't in great physical condition. The rear brake was incredibly stiff to grip and even though I biked on the lightest gear possible, I had difficulty riding him up hilly streets. I realized that BeeKay wasn't well. His gears hadn't been used in years, atrophying as he lived in the dark corner of his previous owner's garage. Instead of ignoring his problems, I decided that he needed to see a professional so I took him to Cyclemotive for a check up, STAT! Joe, one of the bike engineers, told me that BeeKay needed a lot of work done in order for him to live a long life: new brake gear, new brake pads, new tires, new chain. All of these items, plus a tune-up, was required in order for my two-wheel Mustang to ride smoothly again. It would be a two-day operation but I knew BeeKay would be in good hands. Two days later, I picked BeeKay up and he appeared brand new to me. Our first ride was as smooth as butter, BeeKay lives on! Price-wise, I have no complaints. All of the charges were affordable and I was given a good deal for all of the work being done. Not being an expert on bikes, I didn't feel like I was gouged for unnecessary fixes. Everything was shown to me and explained in detail. The Cyclemotive crew was incredibly nice and were able to restore him to his former glory days. You should see him now as he's riding the streets of Toronto; he's incredibly proud. Now that he has a new lease of life, BeeKay's makeover will be ongoing. I plan to add new fenders to prevent my butt from getting wet on rainy days, new grips and a new saddle to make my commute as smooth as possible. All of these items I know can be purchase at Cyclemotive. We're happy now, BeeKay and I. It's a love affair I hope will last for years to come.
