Overrated, the food, not the namesake!
Please don't get that twisted. My co-worker booked this reservation based on her daughters recommendation. Note to self - don't listen to her again!
Easiest way to put it, it wasn't bad Italian, but I've had exponentially better. I was disappointed by the lack of flavor in the dishes for such a high end restaurant, and prices that match said style.
We'd been looking at Yelp all day during the tradeshow, in excitement of our upcoming dinner here. I absolutely loved the memorabilia used as decor. I think I was born in the wrong decade ;)
We had to wait to be seated until all of us arrived, then we were whisked into the dining area -- where for high end, they stack people on top of people. It was very dim lit, so much the table behind us was using their iPhone flashlights s to look at the menu and they had to be in their 40s, not even that old!
We were all hungry, since we made an 8PM reservation. Luckily they set down two large portions of different breads, bread sticks, and some crispy cheese things for us all to share. Oh and duh, they offered butter to spread, as well as hummus too. We devoured both bowls of options!
For starters, we knew we wanted to share lasagna as an appetizer and also try something else to share with our large group. However, after ordering our server came back and told us they only had one left -- 3 had been ordered in our group. It ended up going to one of my co-workers and I was left to re-order (rude)!
Instead, she brought out a Pennette -- Italian sausage ragù, bell peppers,
onions, tomato, fresh basil. to share. We also ordered 2 orders of the Polpettine -- housemade meatballs, polenta fries. The sausage in the Pennette had lots of flavor, the sauce and the other stuff was nothing to even write about, bland for the most part. Some raved about the meatballs, but again I didn't think they were that great and didn't have any robust flavor to them.
We did order a bottle of Chianti and the Somm came over and assisted in doing so. She was polite and served the table the first bottle. She also came back shortly after and brought us a second bottle. I'm not a huge Chianti fan, but after it aerated it tasted better. Again, I'm a simpleton when it comes to wine, not fancy or boughie at all.
Since I had to change my order, I went with the Veal Parmigiana* -- thinly pounded veal chop, melted mozzarella, pomodoro sauce. I also asked for a side of Spaghetti, which was easily accommodated, but they don't put it on the menu. It was good, but I'm still not sure how I feel about eating 'veal'. I'd prefer chicken, bu they don't offer that. They did have a special that night with truffles, but I thought I better not order a $115 appetizer or $195 entree on the company tab. My veal was HUGE and it tasted good, but nothing amazing. Again, the pomodoro sauce left something to be desired.
I know others enjoyed their food, but I don't think anyone was raving about their entrees.
Our server was great, as you'd expect from a higher end restaurant. She was attentive and also detail oriented. She felt bad about the lasagna and tried her best to make it work for our group.
We didn't order dessert because everyone was pretty stuffed at this point and nothing seemed to peek our interest.
Overall, it was a lackluster dinner for Vegas. The namesake draws you in, but the execution is lacking severely. If you've had good Italian food, then you'd know they are not on par here.
Go some where else in Vegas, ANY WHERE else!
