| - This afternoon,10th of February 2018, I was at a self-checkout. About halfway through checking my stuff out an elderly woman interrupted me. She acted very amused, and said she knows I like to check myself out, but would I like someone to check me out ? I was about halfway through a cart full of items, and was stunned by the question. Why was she bothering me ? I just stared at her. The woman was literally laughing at me. I wondered if possibly she drunk. She was really weird.
I'm an adult and of course I know I can get checked out by a cashier. Obviously though I'd decided to check myself out. I'm not the fastest but I prefer doing it myself. Also I was using a combination of cards and so on to check out, it was a slightly complicated thing but I was fine.
I told her "no thanks, I'm not stupid".
But she wouldn't shut up. Standing fairly close to me and using dramatic body language, she said, "oh, I saw you with this BIG CART".
OH. How alarming. A customer with a "big cart". SCARY ...???
I replied "Maybe you shouldn't look"?
She finally gave up and went away. If I remember correctly, her name was "Janice" but if I got it wrong the managers should know who she is. Elderly, from back East somewhere ,she had an East coast accent and was at work this afternoon.
I did tell 2 managers before I left, one was inside the store and the other I came across outside the store. I didn't get the feeling that either of them really understood that she was literally laughing at me for being slow or awkward or whatever while checking out my own groceries, and that she'd made a spectacle of it and it all came out of NOWHERE.
Apparently she thought I was so laughable and pathetic she had to try an intervention ?
I've never had anyone ever do that before, at any Walmart I've ever been to. It's not as if I were looking for a checkout lane when she approached me. I was fine and in the middle of checking out my merchandise. She literally interrupted me, was laughing at me ,{why,??????}. What a complete idiot. Her boss needs to make sure she's alright in the head.
She's one reason why I'll avoid shopping here as much as I can.
