  • It is our first time visiting this AYCE Sushi restaurant on a friend's recommendation and based on service alone, I would have rated 1-star but gave it 2-stars for the average sushi. The sushi nigiri is decent with good ratio between rice and fish (the fish were a tad dry, but I'll stop nitpicking). Miso soup is something I usually order FIRST from sushi restos but would totally avoid it here -- instant miso packets bought from a supermarket tastes way better! And the sad part is it's the first thing we ordered but had to keep asking for its whereabouts a few times before it was delivered. We also tried their tuna poke and fresh oysters which were excellent but then let down by the heavily breaded soft shell crab and sour-tasting calamari. And don't get me started on how awful the spicy tuna roll is, it's a simple dish that should be the least hardest to screw up on. The service we received was sub par to put it kindly. Maybe we arrived after lunch rush hour and everyone is dead tired but I'm making excuses to understand why the wait staff sucked. Our inattentive waitresses (yes that's plural) often neglected us and kept "forgetting" simple requests like napkins, soy sauce, wasabi and then (almost) tossing in orders on our table as they flew by. On a larger scale, it became increasingly annoying when we kept getting wrong orders and repeatedly had to ask for and follow up our sushi orders which we eventually gave up on and decided to move on and just pay our bill. In Las Vegas where there's lots of choices, including good AYCE sushi joints, Umiya will not be one of them. I can overlook mediocre food, even bad food, but crappy service is unforgivable especially if the price point is higher than better places. At least I can tell my friend we tried the place and it was 'okay' at best.
