| - I figure it's about time that I write a review for Jeni's, considering the fact that it is (and probably always will be) my favorite ice cream of all time.
I grew up in the Cleveland area, and one of the biggest things I miss about my hometown is the readily available Jeni's ice cream! Jeni's scoop shops are clean, modern, and super aesthetically pleasing. I love the white subway tiles and exposed brick in Jeni's. Additionally, Jeni's always has small arrangements of fresh flowers on every table, which really adds a nice touch. The employees are very helpful, and I love that you are allowed to taste as many samples as you want before purchasing. There are just so many phenomenal flavors to try, it's hard not to try every single one!
Jeni's ice cream is unlike any ice cream I've ever tried before. It's smooth, creamy, and the flavors are extremely intense. It's rich, but not to a point that it's too heavy. A small cup is really all you need to feel fully satisfied. I honestly can't even pick a favorite flavor: brown butter almond brittle, black coffee, Riesling poached pear sorbet, the list goes on and on. Some of the flavors are perennials, while others change with the seasons. This is always exciting, because every time you go you can try something new. They had a flavor for a while called "sun popped corn" that was absolutely amazing. The "chocolate rum ball" ice cream that they have around Christmastime is to die for. Jeni's has the most innovative ice cream flavors I've ever experienced, and the execution is always fantastic. You really can't go wrong here. Get the ice cream in one of their homemade waffle cones - best waffle cone I have ever had, hands down.
If you ever go to Jeni's and are craving something other than ice cream (I know, crazy right?), then you absolutely must try the hot chocolate. Oh man. Game changer on the hot chocolate front. So chocolatey, so creamy...I don't even know what to say, please just try it. Not to mention the fact that the presentation is gorgeous; your hot cocoa literally comes on a silver platter like you're a princess!
Jeni's, please please please expand to the Pittsburgh area! Pittsburgh is seriously lacking in the realm of artisan ice cream shops, and you'd be quite a hit here! For now I'll just have to settle on frequenting Jeni's whenever I travel back to my hometown. An easy five stars!
